Area beef producers
should make plans
to attend the fi fth annual
Three-State Beef Conference Jan.
15, 16 and 17, 2019 with locations
in Iowa, Missouri and Nebraska.
The conference provides a forum of
specialists from three of the United
States’ leading beef cattle land-grant
universities to discuss where one
can reduce winter cow feed costs
and improve management of those
resources. The theme for this year’s
conference is “Reducing Cow Feed
Costs Using Cropland.”
Participants will be able to engage
in learning about opportunities to
help lower the need for hay, the most
common feed resource in winter cattle
rations through alternative feed
sources off cropland. The same program
will be delivered at each of the
Warren Cultural Center
in Greenfi eld, Iowa
Andrew County Youth Building
in Savannah, Missouri
Otoe County Fair Center
in Syracuse, Neb.
The registration fee is $25 per
person, and it includes a meal and
copy of the conference proceedings.
Preregistration is requested by Jan. 11,
2019 for meal-planning purposes.
The National Cattlemen’s Beef
Association and the Public Lands
Council’s government affairs offi ce
in Washington, D.C., is accepting
internship applications for the Fall
2019 semester. Positions for the fall
semester (Sept. 3, 2019 - Dec. 13,
2019) include a public policy intern
and law clerk. The deadline to submit
an application for either position
is March 15, 2019.
The internships give college students
the opportunity to work alongside
staff on a range of issues that
impact U.S. cattlemen and cattlewomen.
The interns will work closely
with the lobbying team on Capitol
Hill and assist with NCBA and PLC’s
regulatory efforts, providing college
students a one-of-a-kind view into
the policy making process. College
juniors, seniors and graduate students
are encouraged to apply. Applications
for the full-time internship and law
clerk positions will remain open
