Taking care of their milk cow, Ethel, provides milk for their family and friends.
When we got home we worked on fi nishing
up the corral cleaning and hauling sand
to prepare for bringing cattle home and
weaning replacement heifers.
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 23
Back to Pawnee at sunrise to help sort
calves off cows, ship calves and preg check
the second calvers. We gathered and got
them sorted, calves sized, replacements
picked and the remainder of the calves
shipped all before 11:00 a.m. We went to
lunch at the little Airport Diner in North
Platte, came back, and had the cows pregged
by 2:00 p.m.
After we got home Ty hauled some hay
and I worked on getting some laundry done
and supper going.
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 24
This was the big shipping day for the North
Unit at Pawnee. We were there a half-hour
before sunrise and I fi nally got brave enough
