ANNALEE ROGHAIR, AGE 17
a Zoo! consider it a privilege and blessing that I get to live
on a ranch with my fi ve sisters and parents. I am the
second oldest of six girls. We run about 80 head of
Registered Black Angus low maintenance cows along
with a few commercial reds and black/black white
face Angus. I have about 15 of my own cows and
7 of them are Herefords; they are my type of cows
because they’re usually gentle and, of course, pretty.
Granted, my dad’s cows are really gentle as well.
My favorite time of year is probably spring when we have
baby goats, chicks, ducks and calves.
Next year we’ll have lambs and
hopefully a foal, so it’s like a zoo!
The goats are my favorite though,
because they are mine and I love
them! I raise Boer with some Kiko
mixed in. They are my pride and
joy. I have 15 nannies, 2 billies and
8 doe kids. I love getting to name
them. Some people would say that
they don’t have a personality, but
really they do. Some are kind, some
are more standoffi sh, some are very
in your face and pushy, and some
just don’t care. We are pretty busy
during the spring; calving in April
and May, kidding in May (and now
lambing), brandings the end of
May and into June, and just giving
a helping hand to anyone around in need. Usually it is
pretty good for calving, but like others we have a storm or
two pass through and at times are outside all day.
My sisters and I are all gladly homeschooled. Darian,
my oldest sister, graduated in 2017, I am a Junior, my
sister Mesa is a Freshman, my sister Jubilee is in 5th grade,
my sister Riata is in 4th grade and my sister Trinity is fi ve
years old. Some ask me what I will do when I graduate. I
would love to just go live on a ranch with my goats, cows,
and dog! I have thought of going to a Bible college or
maybe working at our local coffee shop, but whatever I
do, I know God has a plan for me and I will try my best
to follow whatever He has in store for me.
