Summer on the
Grace and I headed to Matt’s brother’s
house for swimming, and then all
the cousins showed up so we ended
up having a family Father’s Day swim
and dinner. Matt and his brother
mowed some hay down and then
headed into town for supper with all
of us. I decided to make some homemade
ice cream (which is always a hit)
and we headed home for some rest.
Back to work tomorrow.
MONDAY, JUNE 18
Same ole’ same old. I had to go back
to work today after being on vacation
for the past week. Matt spent all day
baling the hay they’ve been mowing
the past few days. We were able to
fi nally have his Father’s Day supper
of Salisbury steak tonight (and he was
starving after working thru lunch).
After supper, Matt, Grace, and I headed
out to put out mineral and check cows
and calves on the Shadel pasture.
TUESDAY, JUNE 19
Matt went to Virgil to check cows
and put out mineral. I headed to the
grocery store after work to restock the
house (having the kids home all summer
certainly increases the grocery
bill!) and then came home and made
tacos. After supper, Matt was able
to bale the last hay meadow while I
picked up the house and did a few
days’ worth of dishes.
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 20
One of Matt’s friends has been in
the hospital so Matt is looking after
his cattle. Today, he caught some cattle
for him and hauled them to grass.
Then he caught some of our heifers
and bulls so he could pull a bull and
put him with another group of cows.
Later, he hooked onto the bush hog
and started mowing pasture. Floyd
stacked bales while Matt got the
semi and trailer ready to start hauling
hay. Grace had a shodeo tonight,
so as soon as I got home from work
I changed clothes and made some
quick sandwiches and we headed out.
She just did barrels and poles tonight
–but got 4th in both (But really she’s
just there to ride her pony around
with her friends and socialize!). She
had a really good time – but it didn’t
get over until 10:30 so by the time we
got home and put the pony up it was
after 11:30 (Tough on a mom who has
to get to work in the morning!).
THURSDAY, JUNE 21
Matt hauled hay all day. I brought
home BBQ for supper after work. Matt
& I hauled one load of hay after supper
and Grace practiced riding her
pony when we got home.
FRIDAY, JUNE 22
Matt gave me a cylinder off the baler
to drop off at John Deere after work.
As soon as I got home, Matt picked
me up in the semi and I helped him
move the tractor from one spot to
another and then I drove the tractor
home while he took a last load of hay
