been the strong relationships we have been able to build with other ag organizations in the state, which allows us to leverage our dollars together to work on promotion and reach a larger consumer audience. It’s a huge asset for us. WR Where is IBA headed? RB We are pushing toward more involvement from IBA’s network of affi liate chapters plus those state breed associations and allied groups who make up the “family” of the Illinois beef industry. Empowering our partners to build and benefi t from our legislative or promotion capability and successes will help everybody in the long run. We have strong, independent members who serve as voices for themselves, our organization and our industry. The speed with which information can be shared, the social media culture and our youth will drive that. We are lucky to have a lot of young people involved and passionate about the beef industry, and they are going to change the face of our organization. WR What’s a unique opportunity IBA has had? RB We’ve been fortunate to be able to be a driver behind creating the Illinois Farm Families program. We have been able to use our checkoff dollars, since we are a two-hat organization, to help get this program going. It’s geared at consumers and infl uencers, to help provide them education about the food we are raising here in Illinois, and they are then feeding to their families. WR What would you say to someone thinking about joining IBA? RB Aside from the member benefi ts that provide real opportunity to put money back in your pocket, joining IBA is rewarding personally. Our members tell us the biggest benefi t they get is from interactions with other producers. Joining IBA will help further your own independent, unique, Illinois voice. We’re an independent bunch, and we’re proud of that. We are uniquely Illinois, in everything we do. WR encourages producers to have a voice by being active and involved in an association that aligns with your needs and ideals. IBA hosts meetings across Illinois to share Policy and Checkoff program updates. IBA leaders visit Washington D.C. every year to meet with Illinois’ congressional delegation.
