’m in the 6th grade and am a 5th generation rancher.
My great-great grandfather came to the United
States from Norway. He took a train to Devils Lake,
then he took an ox cart to his homestead. My family’s
ranch is located four miles north of the small
town of Berwick, North Dakota, and has been in operation
for well over 100 years! I own three cows and two
calves. I named them Shirley, Susan, Shiannye, Sunny
and Shirley’s Adopted Calf. Like all ranchers, I’ve had
to sell some of my cows. I had to sell Sweetheart, my
fi rst cow. Here’s a little bit of what my life entails:
